I am a professor in Environmental Biology and head of the department of Conservation Biology CML. Previously, I worked as associate professor at the VU University Amsterdam at the department of Systems Ecology. I work at the interface of environmental sciences, ecology, microbiology and biogeography.
I aim at integrating the experience and ideas of the various research fields in search of quantitative unifying principles to predict how human-induced stressors affect ecosystem functioning and vice versa. I do so in international research networks (such as TRY) and in collaboration with Earth System modelers, ecologists and remote sensing experts.
